A WC Weekend

August 12, 2011 By Ryan Lamb

This weekend we have some original West Coaster fans in town, so we’ll be hitting a few of the beer events you can find on our event calendar.

Where the magic happens...

Tonight around 6P or so we’ll head to Stadium Sports Bar & Restaurant in Encinitas for a unique keep-the-pint/meet-the-brewer night featuring Firestone Walker Brewing Co. As our loyal readers will know, “Into the Brew” columnist Sam Tierney is the newest brewer up at Firestone Walker in Paso Robles. This weekend he’s in town to check out our new office and will be available at Stadium Friday night to answer any of your FW (or beer in general) questions. As a professional brewing school graduate, an award-winning homebrewer, a FW brewer, and the man who introduced me and WC Co-Publisher Mike Shess to craft beer, Sam has a unique perspective on the industry we all follow.

Come pick Sam’s brain while sipping on a cask of 3-time World Beer Cup gold medal-winning Pale 31. And on draft: Union Jack, Double Barrel Ale, and contract-brewed Stadium Honey Blonde.

On Saturday it’s time for Hess Brewing’s 1 year Anniversary Party, which goes from noon til 6P. Two bands (Family Wagon and Fab Lushes), two gastrotrucks (Ranchwood BBQ and the Gooch Truck), and a crowded tap list will undoubtedly make for a great party.

We’ll only be at the Hess party until 2:30P, when we jet to the coast for BrewFest Encinitas, which goes from 4-7P. $40 gets you 10 tasters of quality beer from local breweries Stone Brewing Co., Karl Strauss, Pizza Port, Lightning Brewery, Ballast Point, Mission Brewery, Back Street Brewery, Green Flash, and The Lost Abbey, as well as from regional breweries Airdale and Firestone Walker. You’ll also get to keep the 5 oz souvenir glass, and MIHO Gastrotruck and Devilicious Gastrotruck will be on hand should you like to purchase food. Proceeds from this event benefit The Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club.
