Best Damn Beer Shop held their 2nd Anniversary Beer Tasting this past weekend at The Tipsy Crow, in conjunction with AwesomeBeerDrinkers.com. The event highlighted close to 70 bottled craft beers from all over the country and the world, with a special guest draught appearance from The Lost Abbey’s Deliverance. Part of the proceeds went to the Power of Change Foundation, which helps underprivileged children in San Diego.
Many of the event’s ~100 guests arrived early to ensure they got tastes of some of the world’s best and rarest beers, including AleSmith Barrel-Aged Wee Heavy, Firestone Walker Parabola Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, and Brewdog Tokyo 18.2%ABV Imperial Stout. A special raffle even gave select event-goers a small pour of Samuel Adams Utopias, a 27%ABV barleywine that retails for ~$200.
When I asked Best Damn Beer Shop’s Sid for a quote regarding the success of the event and the shop’s past two years, one zealous drinker interjected (loudly and repeatedly), “This is the best beer tasting EVER.” Sid laughed and added, “It’s great to be right in the middle of where craft beer is going. I love introducing people to great beer through these tastings.” Expect many more introductions over BDBS’ next two years, as Sid plans on holding regular tastings “every 2-3 months.”
