MEBC’s First Anniversary

May 3, 2011 By Ryan Reschan

Mother Earth Brewing Co. celebrated their first anniversary this past weekend on Sunday May 1st during their normal business hours of 12-5pm. In celebrating their first year of operation, customers could purchase their first bottled beer, Primordial Double IPA. The 9% ABV behemoth featuring Chinook, Simcoe and Amarillo hops is one hop forward double IPA, something that San Diego craft beer drinkers should be very familiar with.

The North County homebrew supply shop and nanobrewery featured eight of their own beers on draft – Crucible Black IPA, EVO Chocolate Amber, Auld Knucker IPA, Obi-One Session Pale, Roundabout Oatmeal Chocolate Stout, Ole Nitro Imperial Porter, a collaboration beer between them and Pizza Port Solana Beach called ‘The Beav’ Nut Brown Ale and the aforementioned Primordial Double IPA.

Throughout their first year of existence, they have already upgraded their brewing system a few times for higher capacity to keep up with demand. Brewing on such a small scale and having access to all the grains, hops and yeast they sell to homebrewers, Mother Earth has brewed up more styles of beer than you’d typically see at a brewery around town. Combine that with a guest beer or two and there’s plenty of variety on draft while you get supplies for your next batch of homebrew or watch the Chargers or Padres on the giant TV.
