Here’s what’s coming up beer-wise in the next few days. Sorry for lagging on this post to the morning crew. Related: look forward to our travel issue that should be flying off the press momentarily (just as soon as we finish it!)
Updated: Thanks to Peter Rowe and Jennifer Spearel, we’ve updated to include the full list of Maui Brewing Co. events coming up.

They’re calling the event Everyone Gets “Leid.” The founder of Maui, native San Diegan Garrett Marrero will be making his rounds in San Diego beginning tonight; he’ll be shaking hands beginning at 5PM. There will be 8 beers from Maui on tap, including the delicious Coconut Porter and a mystery specialty keg. First 200 guests receive a pint glass and Lei.
630P-10P – East County’s 11 in ’11 member Manzanita Brewing Co. will be hosted at The Grill’s monthly craft beer series dinner tonight. Our friends at The Grill tell us there will be Bruised Brant Beef Cheeks, Chicken Liver Mousse, and Duck Breast Salad paired with Gillespie Brown Ale, Horizon Red Ale, and IPA respectively.

5P – Maui’s Garret Marrero will be continuing his hometown tour by visiting O’Brien’s beginning at 5PM. As always, Tom Nickel says it better than we could: “Garrett will be on hand to share some beers, tell us about his beers and help celebrate his mom’s birthday. Garrett’s MOM (mainland operations manager) lives here in town and she will be celebrating with us at the pub. We will have 7 beers on tap which is more draft Maui beer than we have ever gotten before and most of the beers are in full size kegs. We’ll have Coconut Porter, Big Swell IPA, Red Alert (hoppy 7% red ale), Mana Wheat (made with pineapple juice), Ode to Carol (Belgian-style Golden ale at 6.3%), Flyin Hi P Hay (an IPA made in honor of the late Oregon brewer Glen Hay Falconer) and a Pale Ale.”
530P-730P – TapHunter will be hosting a craft beer event at The Hopping Pig. Apprently the ‘Pig has turned a new leaf and is branching more towards craft food and beer. $15 bucks gets food samples, specials on beer, and one of TapHunter’s cool new T-Shirts (the “I BEER SD” is our favorite).

Friday 4/29
Happy Birthday to Pat @ Alpine Brewing Co. and Tyson @ O’Briens!
7P – Garret Marrero of Maui will be at Blind Lady Ale House. Details are scare for this one, but we’re predicting 7PM as a good time to show up.
Saturday 4/30
5P – O’Brien’s will have a Schneider Beer Night. Via O’Brien’s newsletter: “Saturday the 30th we will have Schneider beers from Germany on special – Weiss, Aventinus (the classic wheat double bock) and Aventinus Eisbock (an iced version of the wheat double bock that is 12%). There will also be a limited amount of Schneider glassware for sale on Saturday. Enjoy 10% off our entire bottle list all weekend long.”
4P – 30th on 30th is happening on a Saturday. When it happens on a weekend, it’s always extra special. If you have not checked out 30th on 30th, you are missing out. The Linkery is having a Ballast Point Tap Takeover w/ $2 lamb sliders, $3 pork belly tacos w/ $2 half pours of Green Flash 30th Street Pale Ale, $3 Niman Ranch Pulled Pork Sliders at West Coast Tavern, Sea Rocket is doing Ballast Point’s Reef Rye Ale cask w/ seared New York Strip….and there is more. We absolutely love this event because you can choose your own food and beer adventure by hopping from place to place. For a full list of who is doing what this Saturday check out this list.
Sunday 5/1
12P – Vista’s Mother Earth Brewing Company will be re-releasing their Primordial IPA with a party. Festivities start at noon. This beer’s a big one with 9ABV and over 100 IBUs. Mercifully, there will be food.
630P – O’Brien’s will be hosting a Hoppy Beer + Food Pairing with Alpine Brewing Company. There will be 6-7 hoppy beers from Alpine and several courses of grub. The cost is $45 for O’Brien’s tasty food with Alpine’s insanely good beers. Well worth it.
8P – Pacific Beach Ale House will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary on Sunday with a classy tropical theme. You have to get on the guest list by signing up on their facebook page, but by doing so you’ll have access to a Hawaiian Style Buffet and an open bar.
