West Coaster-sponsored softball team DRINK LOCAL BEER improved their record to 1-1 with a hard-fought 13-12 win over Stick It In Ur Ear on Monday night at the Santee Sportsplex. Leading 11-5 with under fifteen minutes remaining (games based on time, not innings), the San Diego-based squad looked destined to notch their first win of the season.
However, their opponents fought back and took the lead 12-11 as time expired, leaving the home side with some work to do in the last half-inning of play. DRINK LOCAL BEER rose to the occasion, as shortstop John McGurk was eventually walked in to even the score at 12-12. Left fielder Christopher Guidicelli then stepped up to the plate and skied a fly ball to center field that saw utility infield speedster Mo McGurk tag up to end the game. “Everyone played great out there tonight,” said Mo after the game, “so now it’s time for a beer.”
