If you have your copy of the December 2010 issue of West Coaster, you’ve read the story behind Ingrid’s 1 in 8, a Ballast Point/Coronado collaboration beer benefiting breast cancer research. Last night at Hamilton’s Tavern in South Park, Ingrid herself was on hand to tap the cask of her beer – this version with Grand Marnier oak chips and even more cocoa nibs. Hamilton’s generously donated 100% of the proceeds of the cask and 20% of the draught to charity.
Like most Fridays, the place was packed. The casks tapped every Firkin Friday are a South Park staple, especially last night – Ingrid tapped the cask at 5pm and we arrived after our last round of deliveries to the sight of a ‘tender scribbling OUT on the board. The good news: we won’t have to wait long to attend more great cask beer events at Hamilton’s.
Next Saturday, December 11th, AleSmith will take over. In fact, every 2nd Saturday of the month sees great beers on cask. The AleSmith event‘s cask lineup? Winter Yulesmith and Wee Heavy with Heavy Toast oak chips soaked in Islay Scotch Whiskey. If you think that’s a mouthful, just imagine what the beer will taste like. The draught list is stellar as well: Evil Dead Red, Winter Yulesmith, IPA, XPA, Horny Devil, Lil’ Devil, Anvil, Speedway Stout, Wee Heavy, Nautical Nut, and Old Numbskull. If that’s not enough, how about mouth-watering food to go with it? Indulge in some smoked honey baked spiral ham, sweet potato apple bake, warm bacon and brusell sprout slaw, cheesy, creamy, crunchy potatoes and Wee Heavy bread pudding. Still not convinced? For music: “Dennis the Menace rocks you like a hurricane!”
If you can’t wait to rock, head over to their sister bar in City Heights, Eleven. Throw a couple bucks in the jukebox at this rock-n-roll spot this Monday and enjoy the introduction of Coronado Brewing Co.’s Winter Brew. To top it off, $4 to keep the glass, $3 for refills. This venue showcased the Yeastie Boyz’s first and last performance during San Diego Beer Week, and was also the location for our December 2010 cover shoot. If you like free peanuts, awesome beer, and a unique atmosphere, Eleven is the place to be.
The next Ingrid’s 1 in 8 cask event will be held at The Tipsy Crow on Tuesday, December 7th. Ingrid will tap the cask at 6pm (so come early!) and the venue is donating 20% of the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
