Hard at work on the December 2010 issue of West Coaster, we took some time out to enjoy a bomber of the new special release from Karl Strauss: Parrot In A Palm Tree Holiday Baltic Porter.
We love the commercial description: “In San Diego, we’re not known for our partridges or pears but we can all relate to those noisy parrots and their relentless ‘caroling.’ Parrot In A Palm Tree is a robust Baltic Porter brewed especially for the Holidays. Aged two months in San Pasqual Tawny Port barrels, the resulting brew isn’t for the birds.”
This beer is a limited release, so you’d be wise to grab yourself one (or two, or more) for the holidays – it’s worth it. Parrot In A Palm Tree flies with a symphony of flavors, moving from chocolate to dark, port-like fruit and oak undertones. At 8.5%ABV, the nearly pitch-black brew subtly gives you that nice warming sensation on these unseasonably cold winter nights.
Parrot In A Palm Tree is the first of, you guessed it, twelve beers in the San Diegan version of “12 Days of Christmas.” We’re looking forward to number 2, 3, and beyond.
